I bought this book on a whim from my local walmart. Not really knowing what to expect when I opened it up to page 1.
The synopsis on the book really intrigued me! I loved Ginny so much and I loved her voice and her thought process. Not really knowing from personal exp or knowing anyone who has Autism I dont know if this book did that justice but for me it was so real. Also I really loved how even tho Ginny had an abusive mom she still LOVED HER. because that DOES happen !! just because her mom was awful Ginny still loved her because that was her m o m. It was just refreshing to see something so accurate. I also hATED HER ADOPTIVE MOM LIKE WTF. WHY WHY ALL OF A SUDDEN WOULD YOU JUST DROP YOUR CHILD FOR THE ONE YOU ACTUALLY HAD I JUST. *calms down* she made me so angry. Her forever dad was so sweet tho, although I feel like he could of stuck up for Ginny a tad more.
The only thing I had an issue was, Ginny's real dad gets introduced and then hes leaves and then never comes back  i wanted to know what happened !? like does he come back !? do they still talk !? idk !!!
also i wanna know what happened to Krystal with a K! like does she ever try to contact Ginny again ?? who knows !?!?!?

I enjoyed this. Every adult drove me batty after a a bit. But despite that, a very interesting book

I am so torn about this book. On the one hand, I thought it was wonderful to be put in the place of a teenager with autism and to learn more about her world and history through her understanding of the world and the events in the book. However on the other hand, sometimes it could be incredibly frustrating to follow Ginny's reasoning throughout the story. However, I understand that it's supposed to be frustrating. That's how Ginny felt, so naturally, we as readers listening to her voice should also feel frustrated. I'm very back and forth with how I feel at the end of this. I think Ludwig does a great job of helping us understand the trauma Ginny went through and how she feels about the other people in her life. Won't lie, Maura annoyed the heck out of me and it was hard to be empathic with her at times. I also wondered about Gloria and Rick and wanted to hear more about what happened to them at the end. If anything, I think if this book did switch voices across characters, it could have added to the depth of the story. However, just from Ginny's perspective was great too in that it really helps you understand how those with autism think through problems (very literally). Perhaps I was frustrated at times because there were times when things were immediately clear to the reader and not to Ginny, and that tended to happen a lot. However, then I feel bad being mad about that because the whole point of the book was being with Ginny as she figured it out. So again, feeling very back and forth about this one.

3 stars because I liked the plot and Ginny, 1 star for every adult in this book that deals (badly) with Ginny.

The portrayal of Ginny and her autism is very well done.
The adults who are supposed to advocate and care for Ginny are awful. Not one of them advocates or even listens to Ginny. They seem to have to be reminded constantly of how she relates to the world, people, things, how she processes. Shouldn't they KNOW all this? I mean, I can understand the occasional asking of two questions - Ginny can only answer ONE question at a time. But the complete disregard of Ginny's thought process so that the adults - including her counsellor - can do what they think Ginny should do was aggravating. Or in Ginny's words - 'it was tedious'

Here's the thing: I did not enjoy this book. I felt very on edge and awkward throughout. However, I finished very quickly, partly because I really wanted to be done with it, partly because I had to know what happened. I don't know what to tell anyone about this book...
