I originally bought this book for my niece, but upon reading it myself, I realised she’s still a little young for it. However, I had a good laugh over it! The characters are fun and silly and immensely amusing.
For a book directed at children, I wasn’t a huge fan of the villianization of the majority of the adults in the story. Is it really that hard to find a book where parents and children are able to communicate amicably? Apparently so.
But, as an adult reading this book, I found it delightfully funny and honestly, I might just read it again!

Cute little chapter book about learning to advocate for yourself. My kids and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This book was a delightful read! Having been on Newbery Award watching lists, I wanted to give this a try. With awesome illustrations (that's Brian Floca for you) and a delightful story with both humor and heart.....I read this book in an hour.

This book is fantastic for beginning readers or reluctant readers. The pictures (pretty much on every page) aid in the telling of the story. And who doesn't want to read about a crocodile who eats cream puffs ;) Cora is also a strong female protagonist...start kids young on that!

Now do I think it should win a Newbery? Not necessarily because I feel like the text needs the illustrations. Sure it stands on its own but I found myself loving the story because of Floca's work. In that way I would prefer it for a Caldecott medal. It was nice, however, to read a story without a political message. Smiling is needed in today's world

7 year old gives it 100 stars. I should really start her a goodreads so she can rate these things herself. Anyhow, we loved it. It was laugh out loud funny and heartwarming.

So this functions as both an early chapter book and a picture book. Also a funny, gentle look at parents who are too demanding. Out of love, but too much. Cora is over scheduled, over supervised, and over corrected. I was getting definite sympathetic stress hives while reading.

Also the crocodile is manipulative and sassy and great.
