Caro Salinger, ti cito e ti colpevolizzo. Alzate l'architrave, carpentieri mi è piaciuto molto, ero abbastanza presa dalla storia benché non sia al pari di Franny e Zooey. Sono riuscita ad ogni modo ad affezionarmi nuovamente alla famiglia Glass e stendermi nei loro pensieri, nelle loro idee annidate, nel loro profondo subconscio e nella loro mente, che tanto amo. Ho un debole per le persone intelligenti e di sicuro questo libro mi ha fornito un'altra esperienza in questo campo, come in F. e Z. Tuttavia, come dicevo prima, Seymour. Introduzione mi ha deluso e non poco. Mi ha incuriosito il modo in cui Salinger cerchi di interagire con il lettore per renderlo partecipe di tutta la situazione, ci si sente 'coccolati' sotto un certo aspetto; Buddy non è mai stato il mio preferito della famiglia e mi aspettavo più particolari o effetti scena riguardo Seymour: non puoi parlare così vagamente del suo suicidio, né farmi leggere almeno qualche suo haiku. A conti fatti, sono molto molto arrabbiata con Jerome; l'ho presa sul personale ed avrò per sempre l'aroma amaro di un Seymour che non mi è ancora affine, resterà per molto tempo un'ombra seduttrice e potente che accompagnerà le mie giornate. Volevo conoscerlo di più, ecco, farmi un'idea più approfondita. Anche in F. e Z. la sua figura era diventata per me un'ulteriore causa di fame nei confronti degli scritti di Salinger: volevo conoscere la sua intelligenza e il suo essere così disturbato a tutti i costi e non sono stata soddisfatta. C'è qualcosa di peggio di un lettore infuriato come una tempesta con uno dei suoi scrittori preferiti?
Spero di rifarmi con Nove racconti, per ora mi limito a prendermela con me stessa e col fantasma di David.

I thoroughly enjoyed Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters. Especially his character portrayal was both spot on and at times comical. Seymour: an Introduction however felt too long and rambling for me.

I read [b:The Catcher in the Rye|7178|The Catcher in the Rye|J.D. Salinger|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51namOub2kL._SL75_.jpg|3036731] years ago and enjoyed it, and I read [b:Nine Stories] almost as long ago, but I'd always meant to read Salinger's other stories too. The two stories in this book center on a character named Seymour and are told by his younger brother. Seymour is a FASCINATING character, but I wasn't so impressed with the storytelling style itself. I left this one feeling pretty lukewarm.

If I were able to read Salinger's Glass family stories as parody, they'd be knee-slapping, gut-busting eviscerations of mid-twencen affluence and the privileged class. The truth is that I've always felt that they were thinly-veiled roman a clefs filled out with aspirational padding. This is most apparent in "Raise the roof, Carpenter-bros!" while "Seymour: An Introduction" is the more engaging of the two stories, especially as rendered by the hilarious dilettante voice of Buddy/J.D.

Almost five stars, the writing is so funny and good but it just goes on and on and on which i like and don't like.

the first story is significantly more enjoyable than the second but even when the content itself isn’t that interesting, the writing is great.
