I quite enjoyed this, and was surprised at the military turn of events when I had presumed that it would be a religious one. At first this had a slight similarity to the da vinci code about it, with the disagreement surrounding female priests. As the novel progressed however, it started to remind me of Larsson's Millennium Trilogy due to the use of the media in uncovering a crime.

I tried. The story is all over the place. A murdered woman dressed as a priest, an American soldier looking into possible collusion between the US and a Croatian war criminal, a computer nerd who runs a vertical reality Venice site all combine to make a disjointed, boring book. I dnf'd it half way through.

It was okay but I the plot was to slow and there were too many plot lines also the cover was boring and dull. The characters development was okay but it could be done better.

Interesting story and characters. My only quibble is that the American characters occasionally lapse into Briticisms, which yanks (ha! unintentional pun) me right out of the story: "Ever hear of [X}?" She shook her head. "Should I have done?"

3.5 stars. When the body of a woman dressed in the robes of a priest is pulled from the waters of Venice, Captain Kat Tapo quickly finds herself in the midst of her first murder case. A fun tale that takes us on a tour of Venice as well as a tour of the history of the Catholic church. The book sucked me in from the beginning. Sadly, the further in I got, the more convoluted things got and I found my attention waning. And the ending was a bit of a let-down after all of the work to get there. Still, it was enjoyable and this is an author I would definitely read again.

After a dip in the middle, the book races along to an entertaining conclusion. Very much in the vein of a Dan Brown thriller but one that can actually string sentences together!
