I like my mermaids fun, free and ethereal. Just my preference. Many of these poems go the dark route and the metaphorical route to the mermaid legend. Not really my thing. I did enjoy "Breaking in Ice Skates" by M Brett Gaffney and "On Loving a Soldier" by Natalie Fisher a lot, but nothing else thrilled me.

None of the poems in this anthology resonated with me and I thought that many of the poems connection to mermaid mythology were tenuous at best.
However, I'm not as familiar with reading modern poetry, so if you enjoy modern poetry and have an interest in mermaids, you might get more out of it than I did.
