Have been hearing nothing but great things about this one, so I had to bump it up in my queue! And everyone was right- it was really good. Part sweet love story, part frustrating family saga, with a vague ending that leaves you not knowing whether to cry your eyes out or to be hopeful for the characters.

As I am generally not a huge fan of contemporary teen romance novels, this one didn't completely make me cringe. While it is very similar to many other teen romance novels, I enjoyed the fact that the two main characters were not the typical white teens living in the suburbs of some high class town. Very similar to Perks of Being a Wallflower in a lot of ways. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing of course.

While I adored this book and couldn’t put it down since I was so invested in the characters, I feel a bit let down by the ending. Still a charming read.

We need more stories like this, for young adults and...adults in general. The word I keep going back to is "tender." There is such a pure tenderness about it, even though the strife and harshness. Wonderfully written, with deft, real, and nuanced characters. A wonderful representation of many identities made invisible: a diversity of weight, race and gender identity (and its difference from sexual orientation). Strikes me as an honest portrayal of domestic abuse, too. Nice and surprisingly un-cliche use of [b:Romeo and Juliet|18135|Romeo and Juliet|William Shakespeare|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327872146s/18135.jpg|3349450] I'm rather sad I've finished it. I'll miss the characters.

This teen romance about a first love between two outsiders in a small town will make you remember how hard it is falling in love and being in love. Eleanor and Park are amazing characters. I love their love. This was a quick enjoyable read. And it made me cry so bonus points for that!

What?! Ok so this is the 2nd Rainbow Rowell book that I've read. Both books were amazing right up until the end and then it's just over and we get no closure. Is this her thing? Write an amazing book with no ending?! I'm beyond frustrated! I need to know what happens to these people!

Okay, seriously? The ending--what the heck? I mean, I suppose it ends on a hopeful note, but seriously, the last 3 words? Nah. This was a solid 4-star book for me until I hit the end and then it was like, whut?! Ah well. For me, endings are important and I just can't get over this ending. The writing was good enough that I may check out other books by this author at some point, but I certainly hope they don't all end like this!

Do I understand the hype about this book? Yes.
Did I "like" it? No.

This book was totally depressing on every level. That's not necessarily what I'm looking for when I get a few minutes to read.
