This book is fine. The author clearly accomplished what he wanted to accomplish and told a fun, if remarkably unoriginal, ghost story. This is more commentary on the state of America, “the devil in the White House”, and the impact that has on the world than a resounding horror book. There is one scene that is pure horror, but a lot of it felt like a really dramatic extended metaphor that was ultimately quite predictable. I was much more interested in the history than the actual story, and this book was not written with much history in mind. If you told me this was meant to be 2010 with different presidential names, I would believe you. There was no sense of world or time, and atmosphere is *huge* for me in my enjoyment of horror and this did not have it.

I like the politics. I like the effort haha. And the history, when it was there, was absolutely fascinating. But for something with such a gimmicky premise: “ghost story in the White House”, it was so generic.
