I'm not usually a big fan of crime fiction, but Edgar Allan Poe, along with Daphne Du Maurier lately, convinced me otherwise. The story begins with a very meta description of the different inner workings of the mind and how the analytical mind works. It doesn't read like a detective story at all. Once you get into the actual narrative, it becomes clear why this story is so highly regarded. It has the typical formula: press, police, private detectives, brilliant mind, brilliant but implausible deductions, a crime scene that contradicts the crime itself, etc. The solution to the murders is one that no reader will ever guess, gruesome and yet somewhat funny.
I've decided not to give any hints about the plot because it's such a short story. I think you'll have the most fun if you go in more or less blind. 😎

Like most that have already reviewed this book, it felt Sherlockian to me. The same sort of details and clues. Loved the writing style and language used.
