Overall rating: 3.5 stars

Genre: New Adult Suspense (with a tiny bit of romance)
Plot: 6/10
Ending: 8/10
Writing: 8/10
Enjoyment: 7/10
Hero: 8/10
Heroine: 6/10
Supporting Characters: 6/10
Humour: Not really
Feels: A bit
HEA:
SpoilerYes

Thoughts:
SpoilerFirst half was dull, Logan wasn't hero material until after 50%. There was too many dead end hints and suspicion to try and throw the reader off that were just irrelevant and misleading so that was annoying. The real action was in the last 15%

I started this book on a whim and tbh I have no regrets. This was such a fun read and its been so long since I felt like I couldn't stop reading this book. I do wish we had more Logan chapters ,but he was hiding a lot of secrets so I guess its fine lol. The whole concept of the secret society was super cool and interesting concept. One thing that I couldn't help ,but laugh about was the whole time I was like " this is some white people shit" whole time this man is lightskin. Once he said " oh my mom is black" all of his nonsense made sense LMFAOOO. Their relationship was a mess from beginning to end and I feel like he babied her about the stuff happening in their society. Overall I liked them together and this book was so fun to read. I also loved all the side characters and they need their own books IMMEDIATELY please and thank you Claire.

SPOILERS!!!!!!
One thing I was NOT expecting was her "friend" to be her half sister and try to murder her. There was a moment before when I just thought "wouldn't it be crazy" if that happened.....and then it did lol. Her dad being in that sex mentorship was so fucking weird ,but I didn't think that he killed Lana. I thought the other chick did cuz I feel he had no need ,but regardless I'm glad her mom got away from that man cuz homegirl was STRESSED tf out. I honestly felt so bad for the guy who helped the half sister ( I forgot his name) because he had no choice ,but to help her. I hope he was just put into a facility where people take care of him cuz he doesn't deserve jail. The burying alive part had me so stressed like the fact she was in there for 5 days was crazy. I genuinely can't believe she lasted that long especially since there could have been a lot of CO2 in the box once she was in there so i just chose to not think too miuch about it.

⭐️ 5 "Black Cloaks" Stars ⭐️
I absolutely loved Half Truths! My copy was waiting in my kindle for a few weeks and I was so eager to finally start it with all the great things I’d heard about this story! It certainly lived up to the hype! I was hooked from the start by this mysterious world of secret societies! Claire Contreras created a great balance between romance and suspense that had me completely ensnared!

Logan Fitzgerald is the big man on campus as the star hockey player of Ellis University! He’s rather arrogant and from his first meeting with Amelia, the animosity is palpable between them. He surely likes to provoke the young woman with sexy innuendos then turns cold and distant. I’ll admit that I enjoyed this mischievous side of him, but the real man is even more appealing! Fitz is truly protective and caring! He develops romantic feelings for Amelia that had me melting for him!

Mae is so much more than a rich, superficial girl! She’s ambitious, fearless and determined to seek answers about the mysterious cloaked people wandering on campus. She embarks on a quest for answers about the strange disappearance of a fellow student and her brother accident, where everything seems to be related with the secret societies. The more she searches, the more she’s linked to Fitz and their relationship evolves into something meaningful! But she also enters a secretive, dark, privileged world! Strange things happen forging a gripping, obscure ambiance that had me grasping for air at all the shocking revelations!

I just couldn’t put this book down! I needed to get answers as much as Mae! The chemistry between the main couple was amazing and their interactions very entertaining and sweet! The supporting characters also brought some questions and suspicious events! Claire Contreras utterly captivated me with Half Truths! It was everything I wanted and more! I’m so excited for more from this Secret Society standalone novels!!!

3.5 stars. SPOILERS AHEAD! Maybe I fed into the hype too much. I was looking for a super twisty secret society and while I did love the mystery, I also knew the plot twist as soon as the evil character was introduced. There were so many hints along the way that it was where it was headed and I felt like more mystery would have been so much more gripping.

I am also very done with men who sleep with half of the university before they find a girl they stop for. Do you want to be with a guy who has slept with 1,000 women (give or take) because I really don’t. I realize they “didn’t mean anything to him”, but a guy who has a harem of girls around him all the time isn’t someone I’m going to fall all over. I liked how Logan only had eyes for Amelia when she was around, but he definitely still got around when he supposedly was trying to court her. I am not saying that people won’t like this, sooooo many people love this idea of a guy turning around for his girl, but this one missed the mark for me. I love Claire’s writing and how she wrote this one so I will definitely read the next in this new series!

it’s very obvious i’m not the targeted demographic for this, so i can’t be surprised for not liking this. but i am disappointed. the synopsis hints at a really interesting and complex storyline, with a side of romance, but i don’t think it delivered at all.

i’m not going to say more about this because there are so many good reviews and praise on here so it’s obviously just a matter of opinion, but i will say that i thought this was boring, not memorable, and unfortunately: not worth the read. a lot of the dialogue was very cringey and ridiculous, but again, this book isn’t meant for me specifically so that’s fine.

i doubt i’ll be picking up more of the author’s works, or the other parts of this series.
