Unfortunately, this is not a story for disabled folks. Despite having a disabled co-lead character, this volume centers people’s reaction to Itsuki’s disability, rather than his own thoughts on it.

Also, Tsugumi (the other lead) is genuinely unlikeable in the first chapter. I almost dnf’d it.  And in the following chapters, she is not unlikeable, but bland.

The bright spot in this volume was chapter 3. We actually get to see Itsuki’s true feelings about his disability while he talks with a newly paralyzed kid. We also get the kid’s perspective as well as his girlfriend’s. It’s the only bit of solid, distinct characterization we get, and it’s why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1.

Overall, the plot felt disjointed and rushed, the art was serviceable but sparse, and most of the characters were bland.

This manga follows a young woman who reconnects with a high school crush to find out that he has since had a spinal cord injury and is in a wheelchair. She must then navigate this new change as she falls in love with him even more. I had never heard of this manga until seeing it in the back of another manga I was reading and decided I would pick it up. I think it handles disability well and it is honest about the struggles that come along with it. The central romance is very heartwarming and I will definitely be continuing with the story.

A truly powerful and pretty emotional beginning to what is no doubt going to be a heartbreaking and tender story beautifully portrayed.
