An excellent lecture by the wonderful Mary Beard on how our definitions of power and public speech are stacked in favor of men and how they have been since the ancient world.
Moderate: Rape
Minor: Death, Misogyny, Sexism, Sexual assault, Violence, Blood, and Sexual harassment
Beard alludes to and retells several stories from the ancient world including Medusa and Philomela that include blood, death, etc. She also includes several anticodtes about sexism in current social media and threats to women.epellicci's review against another edition

Women and Power is an interesting insight into the way that Western culture structurally denies women access to power and a voice. I found the focus on language particularly compelling, however I would have liked to see Beard examine some of her suggestions for dissolving these traditions in a little more detail. That being said, this short book packs a punch and provides valuable definitions and recognition to the lived experiences of women, supplying enough information to encourage further research and thought about the topics Beard introduces.
