Katie Couric writes the forward to this amazing journal written by her friend, a young woman who was diagnosed with ALS in the prime of her life. Why, you might ask, would I want to read a book where I know someone dies in the end? I have asked myself that question many times, and I don’t have a really good answer, except that I am extremely curious about how people handle themselves in the toughest of life’s situations.* And this woman could be the poster child for “died with dignity and courage and laughter, etc.,” something I’m sure won’t be in my obituary due to needing room for “whining, complaining, and generally a pain in the ass.”

*(Or perhaps that’s just a pretty way of saying I am a slave to morbid curiosity. At least I admit it.)
