Maybe more for you than your kids, as part of History of Fantasy.
I found this in a list of 100 best Fantasy Books.
It will of course lead me to the works of E. Nesbit.
Anyway, 50s book about a 20s world, but still fresh. I enjoyed it straight up, but also noticed at the end a little chuckle for the grownups. The kids' mom is Women's Club Editor for the local paper, and she gets to write about an event by the League of Needless Women.
The kids make sensible decisions, and there's a happy ending. Read it, it won't take long.

Absolutely LOVED this book as a family. A sweet American version of the five children and it without the heavy morality.

I love this book, but Elizabeth was still a little young for it as a read aloud.

Well, that was cute! I listened to this on audio and it was fun. I had not read this when I was a kid - another classic I somehow missed! Four siblings find a coin that grants their wishes - but only works halfway. Funny situations ensue. Especially when their cat gains the power of speech (halfway!)

Oh my God, this is absolutely delightful. Such a fun story about opportunity and risk and childhood adventure..
