Short but mentally exhausting 😓

*WARNING: SPOILERS*

Things I’ve picked up from this tragedy, and my own thoughts:
  1. The world is extra cruel to helpless little girls; men think of themselves noble to take advantage of their weakness under the guise of “deed”
  2. Marrying a teen 2 decades younger than you, no matter the intention, will never be acceptable
  3. The silent treatment does more harm than administer damage control; communication is always vital in any type of relationship
  4. Treating your young wife a child does not make you considerate. It is negligence and utter disregard of her mental and emotional capacities.

I will never question Dostoyevsky’s ability to write with much vividness, though immensely tragic, but I’ll be honest in saying that I CAN’T love this book for I cannot rack my brain enough to understand how one can endure reading the entire story in this clearly overly-egotistic & problematic “protagonist’s” POV? Everything felt so wrong that all my annotations were just hate comments about the pawnbroker :(

Can also just be that I’m getting tired of complex characters lol. I still want to read his more notable works, though.

Women’s mortality rates would lower if only men chose to get therapy.
