A little slow-moving at first, with quite a bit of world building, but it picks up the pace and delivers a solid tale of magic and action. The characters are intriguing and although the villains do suffer from the one dimensional evil bad guy syndrome, it does offer enough depth in characters like Holland and Kell to keep the book interesting.

I really liked the start of this trilogy. The magic system is interesting, though I definitely have questions about the magic of the stone vs the Antari magic. I love Lila and Kell's relationship with the exception of a couple of moments that I thought were a bit unrealistic given how new their friendship was. I felt like... It resolved much more quickly (and easily) than I expected. Given it's a trilogy I thought this was the beginning of the story set up in this book but it ended up as more of a character intro... feels pretty standalone as a book. I don't feel like I NEED the next book... But since it's sat next to my bed waiting...
