These aren’t your typical unicorns, they come with sharp teeth and attitudes to match. A glorious mash up of Harry Potter and Scorpio Races (but make it MG) with elemental magic and fierce competition.
It’s a book full of inspiring friendships and self-love and it’s packed with adventure and great twists too.
I am not the intended audience for this book, but it was a lot of fun and I know I would have been absolutely obsessed with this book when I was younger.

A strong start for a new author. Leans a bit too heavily on familiar tropes to close the story arc, but there are bloodthirsty unicorns, so I'll forgive it.
Graphic: Violence
Moderate: Death, Death of parent, and Animal death
Minor: Panic attacks/disorders

It’s weird because it feels like an adventure that never went anywhere. It had a lot of promise but just didn’t deliver. Perhaps the super hype around it frazzled my enjoyment slightly, I’m not entirely sure.
I might consider giving this book another go once the sequel is released, but at the moment something just didn’t quite click with me.
