This lovely collection of meditations on science and nature is delicately and whimsically illustrated throughout and is perfectly suited for toting along with you as you meet the world with new knowledge, bright eyes, and spades of wonder. Thank you to Penguin Books for the advance copy!

Can I give 15 stars? This book is the art of science, it’s complicated facts written in poetry. This is one of those rare finds that you do not want to finish. So I read less than 150 pages in more than 12 months, because I did not want to miss reading it. I found this book in a cute bookstore and I’ve been in love with Ella’s work ever since.

That was fun. I think this would be a good book for people who have a casual interest in astronomy or science in general, however I knew almost everything mentioned in this book and therefore it felt a little simple for me. The illustrations are so beautiful, I definitely saved a few to use as my lock screens on my devices.

This book solidified another sense (see p. 123), and that is one of wholesome connectedness.

a very Anthropology store style book that doesn't have very much substance -- which isn't to say that the author doesn't provide interesting "musings" (wikipedia article rundowns?) about science and the universe. The artwork is lovely but there isn't much original or creative work in the writing itself and the musings are much too small. Also, I have not read that many non-fiction books but the lack of any citations or credit to so much facts adds to the wikipedia article rundown feelings.

Eating the Sun is a delightful collection of illustrated essays covering every scientific field. Sanders' combines wonder, whimsy, and scientific facts, AND then draws and paints a beautiful image with every entry. This book was perfect to read over a few days - a few chapters here and there - musing and meditating on the words. Lyrical and accessible writing style, will pique curiosity in older children and teens as well as many adults!
Some essay titles to give you a little taste:
What Exactly Am I Breathing In?
The Sun is a Typical Star
What Is Heat?
Mitochondrial Eve
Periodically
Why Does It Always Rain on Me?

This is a cute little book I read sporadically throughout the year. Did I really retain any of the things I learned? Nope! But it brought a quirky romance to these scientific concepts, and made me think a little about my relationship to the physical world. The book I most enjoyed reading after a little

I was led to believe this was memoir/self reflection intertwined with scientific musings, but turns out it’s all science

I forget where I heard about this book that I decided I needed to buy it, but it ended up being a book we read aloud for family story time.
I felt kind of lukewarm about this. The tone of the book was pleasing, and the topics were interesting, but each musing felt mostly too short and unfinished. Musing is definitely the right word, as these pieces are too short to be essays. I guess I wanted them to have more substance.
Probably would be lovely to someone who is curious about the world but reads less science non-fiction.

A quick stress-relief book... I really enjoyed this one. It's not exactly what I was expecting, but it was informative and interesting and best of all quick.
