I finished the last 200 pages on a plane. Let's just say that strangers were probably wondering how a book could make a woman quietly weep. I couldn't even put the book back in my bag. I couldn't let it go because then it would truly be over.

I kept waiting for someone to find the miracle that would save Selena. I can't believe it wasn't found. You just expect the happy ending in everyone's story. Despite that, the story was very realistic even if the story is paranormal and can creadte any unrealistic outcome the author wanted. Too many people lose their loved ones too soon. J.R. Ward handled this truth with care and I respect her for that. In the beginning of the book I thought that her dedication was to Trez and Selena. After finishing the book it became that much more special when I realized it was about iAm and Trez. Great story; the series will always be my favorite.

Now, I has been since I read a book form the BDB series which was the one before this book. So starting The Shadows was not only a memory refresher in the BDB world but the main book couple. The Shadows was a heartbreaking romance story for Trez and Selene. Going into this book you already know that Selene is dying as it said very early on through Selene herself. And that she pushes and allows Trez to push her away because in the end she if going to be dead. While Trez is left alone and without her, his shellan. But knowing all that going in doesn’t make the ending that less hurtful for the readers. The Shadows was a book to make one cry or angry and this was how the story of Trez and Selene starts and ends.

Loved it!!!

4/5 stars it dragged on in some parts but it was wonderful to read the story of the Shadow Brothers and see something other than the constant battles. To see the family bond they had all developed. I can't wait for more.

Still enjoying the series but this book wasn't one of my favorites.
