What a story.

This is probably not a book I would typically pick up but I am so glad I did. This was story of an independent, strong willed woman living in a country and a time when being those things was practically impossible. This was such well written and engaging story.

Had received this book in my Christmas box from my book club; had been reading a sci-fi and needed something to read on the side. I chose this book; but never did I think

Summer Bingo-Author from a country you've never visited
This work of historical fiction, told in the first person, tells the story of the life of Forugh Farrokhzad, an Iranian poet and feminist. I had never heard of Forugh and found it fascinating to read about her life and work in 1950s-1960s Iran. I also enjoyed learning about Persian culture and Iranian history. The translations of her poetry that were woven throughout the story gave me a deeper understanding of Forugh and what she was trying to say about the hardships women faced then and even to this day.
