i have never been kept on the edge of my seat the way the last 40% of a tamsyn muir book keeps me on the edge of my seat. it didn’t matter that i read some major spoilers for this book—at no point did i know where the plot was going to go. i only had what i didn’t understand and what i thought i understood, and the things i felt most certain about were consistently the things that ended up lulling me into a false sense of confidence with these plot twists. the ultimate puzzle of a book. the way it experiments with point of view is fucking insane. incredibly crafted. i can’t wait to reread and see it in an entirely new light. i am going to crawl into my walls and start eating the insulation.

I’m a little mixed about this book and the world building. On one hand, I’m impressed at the complexity and the way the tale and world is woven together over time. On the other hand, I’m really annoyed at the name doubling which makes this excessively confusing to listen to (audiobook version) at times. It definitely grew on me though. It took a bit to get through but I did enjoy it.

Such a long build up but 100% worth it. I felt like I knew what was happening the entire time and just waiting for the curtain to drop but it was still extremely good.

The characters? Astounding
The vibes? Immaculate
The plot? lol what even is a plot

The first two thirds of this book consisted of me basically angry reading but when things started clicking into place? It was so worth it.

I just need to resign myself that I’m too dumb for these books lol

Hard to imagine anything hitting me like the second half of this book did. First time I ever immediately started a reread after finishing a book I think.
