Definitely a slow read, but overall I enjoyed. Van Helsing’s monologues definitely could have been shorter, they felt quite tedious at times and the accent in them definitely did not help!

Dracula novel: 3.5
The Vampyre novella: 4

While Dracula is richer in content — intertextuality and contextualisation wise— as well as character development, Polidori's concise (and organical precision of) events in The Vampyire lead to a conclusive, yet abrupt, denoument— which proves to be most effective, in my views, as it presents the essential elements of the grotesque with a character such as Lord Ruthven's at its summit.
