This was a good book though not much really happened. It was slow and felt like an on the surface book.  We learned about the main characters sexual abuse background and how it messed up future relationships. The thing that happens to her boyfriend didn't happen until halfway thru the book and didn't seem relevant. It could have been someone much more dark or heartbreaking. Adelaide is another one of those characters that knows what's going on but is just desperate enough to not do anything about it. I got this book bc I saw that some were saying it was a dark emotional contemporary. Although it was emotional it was also frustrating how she kept herself in this situation and chose to do nothing about it. And the ending was very fast. All in all I think people can relate to this book. It just wasn't for me.

I liked this book! I liked the subtlety of the toxicity that felt very true to life. Adelaide was easy to root for, and her friends were well fleshed out. The audio narration was well executed. The mental health content was treated with both realism and sensitivity. I would definitely recommend this, particularly to women in their 20s struggling to make sense of the dating landscape and trying so hard to see the best in people they want to love.

Editing to add something I forgot: It’s worth noting there are multiple substantial HP references in this book. That’s definitely a disappointment at this point and I’d love to see authors slowing down that reference in light of current awareness.
