Whether or not you’re a hip hop fan or a Rick Ross fan, this book will grab your attention and pull you in. It’s a very real tale about someone who faced extremely difficult circumstances and found ways (both legal and illegal) to rise above the statistics. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a great look into Rick Ross and how he got his start.

I’ve been reading a lot of memoirs lately and I can’t say that this was high up on my list of favorites, but I like Rick Ross’ music when he was in his prime and thought this would be an interesting read to add to my list.

It fell a bit short for me – the beginning of the book focused on his childhood years and his upbringing in Miami during the crack epidemic of the 80s – dealing with his parents separating, his introduction to music – all that stuff. Honestly, compared to Gucci’s book, the flow of the writing was relatively the same (they probably used the same ghostwriter) but Hurricanes just didn’t reel me in as much. Rick Ross doesn’t exactly come off as the most likeable person in this book, either. What was interesting to read was his experience of the creative process in working with Jay-Z and Kanye. For anyone who was a rap fan during that era, it was cool to have the visual of what those classic recording/studio sessions would have looked like in that point of time. If you’re a rap fan I would recommend this (specifically the audiobook), if not, I’d skip.

On par with Gucci's memoirs. Definitely a must read if you like his music.

This quote from the book says it all: "Because the truth is, what makes me a boss is not the stories that I tell. It's the ones I don't."

Ross!! I love Rick Ross. I enjoyed his story although some of it put me in the mind of Dick Gregory's stories....you never really know just how much of it is reality. Lol
