Nonfiction. Basically this is a bilingual visual dictionary, with pages organized by theme and pictures labeled in both English and French.  The themes include: inside the house, clothing, fruits and vegetables, community, at the market, feelings, transportation, weather, wild animals, and more. There is a generous amount of vocabulary here (the cover says 700+ words but I did not count), much more than in the popular my first 100 word type books.  This book does not show colors or numbers but that vocabulary is pretty easy to find in board books or songs etc.  The illustrations are bright and colorful. I do wish there was a general pronunciation guide-- I know pronunciation of each word would have taken up a lot of space but some guidance would be helpful for readers not familiar with the accents, the silent endings, or the lack of the "an" vowel sound in French. Overall a good resource to be used in conjunction with others.
