Interesting book. It was a synopsis of the Islamic world. What I didn't like is when he touched on the Shia & Sufi sections, I felt like he was putting them down. He had nothing positive to say about them.

Regardless of your background; religious or irreligious, this books provides a concise overview of the entirety of Islamic history. One can easily recommend this to anyone interested in knowing about the empire/community/ideals that shone when Europe was drenched in darkness.

A great primer/entry level history book. Perhaps a bit more basic than I would have liked in some ways, but I have still come out of it with a strong desire to learn more about some topics broached within.
