I knew this book was dark, but the level of dark this was? I was still unprepared.

”some would call me broken, but I’ve never known anything other than the comfort of my pieces.”

This book was heartbreaking, in a very real & raw way. Jescie doesn’t shy away from breaking down barriers dealing with religion and the horrors that happen in real life. Religious trauma is at the forefront so you can only imagine what is discussed within this story. It’s brutal.

”I didn’t want to be loved anymore. I wanted to be loathed.”

Aero. Aero. Aero. 🧎🏽‍♀️😮‍💨🤤

What a man. Unhinged in all the best ways (red flags flashing in neon lights) but like a moth to a flame, I’m on my knees

Aero cracked Briony’s perfect shell of a life and showed her the horrifying truth of the world around her. The character growth was stunning. My favorite part was watching both Aero and Bri trusting each other to take back what was taken from them.

“you, aero are the throat from which I’ve been allowed to scream, but I’m the eyes through which you’ll finally realize your worth.”

Chaotic thoughts for a wild ride of a book. There are so many quotes that resonated with me so maybe I’ll add more to these thoughts later.

If you love dark romance - this book is one you need to read! Add it to your TBR. (But also check for TW first, okay?)

While the plot/storyline delves into a very dark perspective of organized religion, it can also draw parallels to possible real-life scenarios (especially power structure struggles within religion).  This unsettling and contemplative aspect becomes more pronounced if one chooses to explore that line of thought.

In general, I adored Aero and Briony. Naturally, there's our exceptionally morally ambiguous main male character, and your heart aches for him, while the character evolution and progress of our main female character are simply unique.

They might not be together at that point but he's supposed to be obsessed with her, he wants no one to touch her but his visit to the strip club, to question one of the girls, who's sleeping with his father, who he hates, counts as infidelity imo. He tries to pretend it's not by thinking of FMC  the whole time, classic cheater behavior. I like Degradation but he really acted like he barely even liked her.
And the religious aspect was just too much. If it was a lighter theme and not half the plot I might have let that pass.
But I just couldn't get through this book regardless of hearing good things about it

@jesciehall.

Blurb: Fornication is a sin.

As it reads, we should flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.

They teach us that these thoughts, these actions, are immoral. But that dark side that lives inside all of us, the true nature of man, drives us to seek the need that burns within, demanding to be set free. Deep inside of our bones lies that intrinsic need, one desperate to escape. An innate behavior, seemingly out of our control.

One that screams for sins they tell us are condemning.

Aero is the throat from which I scream.

The dark parts of myself I want hidden from this world are all he sees when he gazes at me beneath yet another mask.

He’s the demon drowning me in my own underlying desires.

He may never stop. Not until I succumb to my truths, or die beneath the weight of his unrelenting grasp.

Because according to him, the life I’ve been living is a hell far worse than death.

My Thought: OH. MY. GAWD. 🥵🥵...
Jescie Hall knows how to write dark romance. Her writing is the epitome of
Dark.
Tragic.
Deliciously depraved & devasting.

I couldn't help but become consumed by Hall's writing and Aero. Aero is such a domineering, broody, take no shit force of a man and I loved every single part of him. I really enjoyed the twists and turns and suspense through out this amazing heart stopper. I literally had to rub my thighs together while reading this book.

I also really enjoyed Briony which kudos for an original name, one that I personally love. Briony may be the so called "intended victim" but she's a total badass. She doesn't sit around crying over the life she had day after day, un⁸willing to fight for herself. No, she does grieve the life she thought she was suppose to have but then she decides she's going to fight for her future and Aero does what he always promised, he helps her bloom into the rose she was always meant to be.

I loved seeing Aero and Briony break down one another's walls and fall into chaos together. There's something so beautiful and raw in knowing someone's most inner demons and yet not running from that person but embracing all the ugly, broken parts. This book will haunt me quite possibly for the rest of my life. I highly recommend this book as well as Jescie Halls other books.
