In the final installment of Sophronia's story, she must save her school, and all of England from the Picklemans' evil plan.
I enjoyed this book as I have the entire series. I think this was a great ending to this series. Sophronia ended up with the right young man in my opinion. I like that she mostly stood on her own and finished her schooling in her own unique way.
I only wish we'd gotten more of her friends, Dimity and Agatha, in the story. I'm glad that some of the other characters like the headmistress did finally get fleshed out though.
Overall quite enjoyable and a great end to the series.

God what a beautiful ending to the "Finishing School" series. This story neatly wraps up Sephronia's tale in a nice bow, but open-ended enough to leave the reader to speculate what she and her friends do with the rest of their lives. Sephornia's main goal throughout tuis book is to foil the Picklemen's evil plot when they start attacking the derigible school. This story I would say focuses more solely on Sephronia than the other books in this series, where they also had a little more involvement of her friends. Though, Agatha has proved to be a force to be reckoned with. You even meet old friends from the Parasol Protectorate series and hear (albeit briefly) about Ms Tarabotti herself. In this story, Soap and Sephronia finally get together and admit their feelings for one another mutually. Which is much needed after the pining whe have read about for 4 books now. I joke they live happily has lovers together, as they deserve.
Moderate: Violence and Blood

Sophronia and her friends are near their final exam in espionage at Mademoiselle Geraldine's floating dirigible. When Sophronia learns that the Picklemen are planning something big the teachers won't listen and she doesn't know who she can trust. But that's never stopped her before...
It's sad that this is the last book in the series - I will miss the characters! It's been a bit too long between reading the books (my own fault), so I don't remember everything that's happened, but I get reminders once in a while, thankfully. With that said, and if my memory serves me correctly, I think this book has the most serious plot - and the most violent. Even so, the tone remains lighthearted, almost humorous, and although it might sound cold, I appriciate that.
Besides the characters I really enjoy the steampunk elements. Since this series take place in the 1850's there's a cool contrast between beautiful ball gowns and technology. Hard to describe the feeling it ewokes, it has to be experienced, I think.
I did enjoy "The Parasol Protectorate" series a bit more, but "Finishing School" has grown with each book. I'm looking forward to reading "The Custard Protocol" series later on!
Moderate: Violence
