I really enjoyed the gradual development of Laurent and Damen's relationship, and also the secondary characters. The political element comes out in full force in this book, which also allows us to see just how freaking smart Laurent is. This book had its funny moments, it had its sweet moments, but mainly it had a lot of ouchies.

Ooh!!! Things are happening!! This is one of those political fantasy books where you don’t see any of the political machinations until the very last second. And it’s fantastic!! I love the way Laurent’s mind works and all the little things that he’s doing in secret that have huge repercussions later. I also loved that Damen is slowly coming to realize that there is so much more going on under the surface, both with Laurent and the political landscape that he never knew was there. There is just so much going on and what you think is happening might actually be something else completely. It’s such a fun ride, and the ending??? Didn’t see that coming, but I probably should have. Anyway, Prince’s Gambit is getting five stars!

It's crazy how much more I'm enjoying this series on a second read.

Damen, really stole my heart this time around (still love Laurent). I just really enjoyed his character growth through this book, such a patient and soft soul. I liked seeing him in his element, just being a general badass (that sword throw 👀). He is a bit oblivious about some things that have me yelling at him every once in awhile.

Laurent is so interesting and complicated. Can't even imagine the emotional turmoil going on in his head. Knowing what I know since I've read the whole series, it still blows my mind how interactions between Laurent and Damen evolve. In the best way possible. Seeing Laurent be able to let loose a bit around Damen is incredible, the man laughs around Damen, genuinely laughs!

Alright now this one sucked me in. I liked this book much better than the first. Obsessed with Laurent, officially. So cool to see how his brain works, how he meticulously plans everything. By the end of the book, I really liked Damen too. A lot of character development from both of them.

THAT CLIFFHANGER. Immediately going to read the last book, bye.

Really glad I stuck with this series! Book 2 really ups the stakes and I’m excited and terrified to see how it all plays out in 3
