Just a little young for me. The writing is more telling than showing and there's quite a bit of 80s gender stuff. Just not for me.

This book was just inoffensively bland. Rolan and Talia's relationship should have been central to the book, but we barely got to spend any time seeing the bond develop. The reader is just told that Talia and Rolan are closer than ever, or that they always spend time together, or they really care about each other, but we never see any evidence of this, even when Rolan saves Talia from the river.
There's also a distinct lack of plot. Nothing ever happens, there's no real tension, and everything is summarized. I actually DNF'd this book with less than 50 pages to go because I couldn't be bothered to read the rest.
Hard pass.

I really wish my ten-year-old self could have read these books because I would have been obsessed for sure.
