I loved this book! Adrian was just *chef's kiss* and the passion in this book was delicious. The balance between spice and story was perfect, and I am dying for the next book to come out!

what a rollercoaster. this book started out so strong for me, i was immediately drawn in by the characters and the enemies-to-lovers plot that i saw developing. the tension and banter between isolde and adrian was so good right away. about 25% in i got a little frustrated and bored, it just felt like such a typical fantasy plot, “maybe these people i’ve been taught to hate aren’t so bad” but adrian kept me invested. AND THEN the turn of events that took place? i wouldn’t say i was completely shocked but it was just so good. so fun to read, i was captivated by everything that was happening. there were so many great quotes in this book, “i do not pray, but i begged for you” like PLZ i love this couple i can’t wait for the next book

This was an easy, predictable read. Most should have a solid idea of what was going to happen at least 20% though the book at the latest. Take that was you will.
I found the main characters to be mostly tedious, but still entertaining. I wanted more of the trio of guards, and more on the magical structure of the world. Because of this, I will absolutely be picking up book 2. Not so much for Adrian and Isolde (who I found pretty dull), but to better understand the history of the world in which they exist. Don't get me wrong: there were enough chisme moments in the book to keep be invested, but they were relatively isolated to the last third of the story.
