In a nutshell the book is just abuse, abuse and a lil more abuse. No depth to the characters nor plot.
Without giving anything away (if possible) it’s the same old tale of a guy coerces his way into a woman’s home (who you can quite obviously tell is a woman written by a man) and then he starts torturing them.
I’m not new to this genre and I do typically like books with such vivid acts of murder/torture but this just felt like an excuse to write explicitly about abusing (sexually, physically, verbally, mentally- the list goes on) children.
Maybe it works for some people but I’m certainly not one of them, do with that what you will.

I read a lot of extreme horror and splatterpunk so wasn’t really phased by the content of this book. I found it very obvious and boring and knew exactly how the story was going to end (and I was right). I originally thought the author was a woman and so got more and more confused with some of the things that happened in the plot (acting like menstrual blood is SO disgusting and a ridiculous amount of butt stuff), so it made A LOT of sense when I googled the author and saw they are in fact a gay man. I’m not a huge fan of extreme horror penned by men, especially when the content is essentially torture porn inflicted on women. This was a no from me. There are a few examples of this type of storyline that doesn’t scream ‘I’m a man that clearly doesn’t like women’ - one of which is No one rides for free by Judith Sonnet, I suggest reading that so that you can see the clear distinction between the writing style of men v women when it comes to this subject matter.

Lots of child abuse and forced sexual interactions. very grusesome and anger-inducing because the whole time you are just wanting the killer to get murdered but thats what makes a good splatterpunk. gets you feeling strong disgust and anger. reminded me of the splatterpunk book no one rides for free, the first one. I kind of didn't like the ending because
the killer doesn't get brutally killed. He ends up basically getting away with it and doing it again or at least it is implied that he does it again right after.

If I could give 0 stars I would

Do not read this book. Do not give this man money. This is not a horror book. This is fucked up porn written for his spank bank. Massive warnings for GRAPHIC SA of children. More time went into describing the assault of the kids than any other part of the "book". This man belongs on every list

I read this book on Kindle Unlimited, and I originally DNF'd and returned it before deciding that I should power through it to see what the hype in the splatterpunk reading community was about. This was a really difficult read for me based solely on the continuous and horrendous violence against children, and much of it felt gratuitous instead of plot driven, but I understand that's the whole point of shock horror. There were a couple of parts throughout where I think some dialogue blended into the narration, and it was a little confusing, but definitely still readable. I did end up finishing it, and it earned an extra star for the ending, which was a great cliffhanger and opener for a whole new story. This is one of those books I would urge people to research thoroughly before reading because it truly is depraved beyond a measure I was ready for. That being said, I understand why so many people say it's a staple in shock horror reading, and at least I won't suffer the fear of missing out.

Gratuitous gore porn with mediocre writing. The dialogue was so awkward and yes, there were lots of unsettling thematic scenes, but to what end? We had no motive, and most of it was child SA. I basically DNF'd it, I skimmed the last quarter cause I couldn't handle Tully's dialogue.
