This book has a nice plot and sounded like a great escape read. And while I loved the travel vibes (since, ya know, it’s been a while due to events-that-shall-not-be-named) and I always love wedding vibes (hopeless romantic here, but y’all already knew that)- this book just...fell flat. I had trouble with the way it flowed. One minute, I’d be reading from someone’s perspective and it would shift so suddenly that I would be confused for a moment before realizing I was actually receiving insight to a friend, a family member, or a shopkeeper’s assistant’s thoughts instead of our normal narrator’s

I enjoyed the story and the characters, but the writing style gave me Game-of-Thrones-level whiplash with how the perspectives would shift. I’m not sure if that’s because I was reading a Kindle Edition and there was some better delineation of sections/perspectives in the physical book.

2⭐️⭐️. Have been trying to figure out how to discuss this one without sounding like a b***h, so here goes.
I have never cared less about a story? I thought it was a rom com but turns out it might be lit fic? People are confused about this. Regardless, this was a clusterfck. Narrators switched randomly in the middle of sentences. There was a third act break up for a couple I didn’t even realize was together. There were SO MANY characters to keep track of.
Admittedly, I didn’t do the best job of listening closely during the first 20 minutes, so maybe if I had this all would have made sense?? But I feel like for a 12 hour audiobook, I should not have been confused by who was BREAKING UP at the end.
Overall not my cup of tea but the India setting was fun to hear about. I don’t really recommend but if you disagree I’m happy for you! 😂

4 stars! First of all, I loved the author’s debut novel, The Windfall, and I was excited for this one to come out. This book is definitely one that I was pretty much guaranteed to like- wedding, beautiful setting (India), some romance, rich people glitz and glamour, family drama, etc. I really enjoyed the ensemble cast of characters who all had their own sub plots. This book also explored some more serious issues of identity, family, and class which I appreciated. My only criticism of the book was that I thought it was a bit slow in the middle, but I think that’s part of the ensemble feel- not just one plot line. Highly recommend! Also read The Windfall!

This was a book you had to read without reading other books at the same time. I found I was only really interested in the characters when I was consistently reading this book. It's a sweet sort of finding yourself novel, with each of the main cast of characters coming into their own.
