Read this book in Dutch but will be writing a review in English.

I know I have seen this book before, on Twitter, and I was planning on reading it (mostly because of the illustrator). But then I forgot all about it (arghh). Thankfully my library had this one in Dutch, so I took it with me.

This was such a fun book. We need more books with girl inventors! Especially ones not afraid to show that being an inventor isn't easy. Yes, this may sound weird, but I have seen many books that show a bit of frustration when something doesn't work or nothing at all. This girl however? She gets totally pissed and throws a small tantrum. Which may get annoying, but if anything I loved it. It shows that inventions aren't made without a hitch. Also, another reason why I didn't dislike it? Because she keeps going. Sure, she needs some motivational talks from her grandpa, but everyone needs someone to motivate them.

In this book we see her inventions, before the crow we see things like a tea-robot, something to help her grandpa with his shaving, a help with reading machine (which I need). I just loved how intricate and well-made the inventions are. She really has a supertalent for inventing.

But quite soon she has a whole new challenge! A crow falls out of the sky and the poor thing may never fly. But not if it is up to Izzy. Oh no, this girl wants to make sure her best friend is happy, and she tries out all sorts of things, but eventually settles for trying to get her friend to fly again. Which was not only cute, but also had me in stitches as we saw were she got her little parts for the inventions from. :P

The ending was supersweet, and I was just awwing. And then came the last page and that had me in stitches. Haha. Good luck with that Izzy!

The art was just fabulous, but I hadn't expected anything different since I just adore the illustrator's art style! I just love the details on the inventions (especially later with the crow).

All in all, this is one book I would highly recommend.

This is a book for elementary school kids. I really liked it, the protagonist is a tinkerer (might be good if the kid is into iron man). The moral of the story is about preseverance.

A book about persevering even when your first idea is a flop. This would be a great discussion starter for younger kids about grit and perseverance.

What a cute book! The story is fantastic, the characters are fun, and the art is both stylish and engaging. The story is about a girl who invents things and her grandfather who encourages her. The rhymes are very Seussian, and it would be a great read for K-2nd graders.

Love this one and want to add it to our home library. Black girl inventor who lives with grandpa. Love the diversity and the theme of persistence in the face of setbacks and failures.

Looking for that book that highlights determination / perseverance / grit / growth mindset? Or wanting a book promoting girls in science / engineering / STEAM? Izzy is your girl! Her inventions don't always work, but she keeps at it. When it comes to helping a crow with a broken wing, she wants to give up, but her grandpa encourages her. Told in rhyming verses, with joyful illustrations, this is a fun book. Although I wish she didn't steal things to keep trying new fixes, but at least at the end Grandpa holds her accountable for fixing what she broke. Pair with Ada Twist, Scientist and the rest of that series.

This is a really a story of not giving up. Oh, yes, it is also about a little girl that likes to invent things, but keeps failing at her inventions, and so she abandons them for the next thing.

Until she finds a wounded crow, and she tries to invent new wings for him. She keeps wanting to give up, the the crow and her dad encourage her to try again, until, she ha the crow flying again.

Fun, bright pictures. I love that the girl has problems not because she is a girl, but because what she is doing is hard.

I'm hoping this will be a hit around little girls that like to invent things. :)

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

Izzy loves to tinker and invent. It doesn't always go the way she hoped. With some encouragement from her grandpa, Izzy perseveres until she finds a way to make a special invention work well. In her excitement, however, she takes parts from around the neighborhood...
