By now everyone knows the story of Harvey Weinstein. They’ve all heard about Christine Blasey Ford testifying to the Senate about the high school sexual assault perpetrated on her by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. This book goes through the process of two NYT reporters who broke the Weinstein story and who followed up on the Ford / Kavanaugh story, the reporters who knew what happened long before the rest of us.

What I found most important about the memoir of their investigation was what happened after the accusations had been made. Kantor and Twohey explored how the very act of coming forward changed the accusers’ lives, and changed what was happening across the US in response.

This book is really meaningful and I can’t deny the importance of the work of the two reporters — but I feel it focuses far too much on journalistic endeavours and not enough on the bravery of the women whose stories they told (and greatly profited from). I know the book was written by two journalists and I should have expected this, but I just thought it might have focused a bit more on the women involved. Still, I feel like I learned a lot from it and it did tell an important story, despite being slow at times.

Wauw, wat een boek en wat een vrouwen. Heel indrukwekkend verhaal van de vrouwen die seksueel geïntimideerd zijn door Harvey Weinstein en de journalisten die hun verhaal aan het licht brachten. Ik hoop ooit ook zulk journalistiek werk te verrichten.
