In terms of spiciness, I’d say this is mild feminism—just how I like it. The horrors of men do not dominate the book, but are slipped in often unexpectedly, either subtly or intensely, and the actions speak for themselves, rather than Wyld or one of her characters speaking emphatically for them. Each character followed is well formed, and there’s a good level of mystery throughout, some of which gets answered and some not. I was irked by the tense and point of view differences and also felt there was not enough connection between Sarah and Ruth&Viv, given the latter two are closely related, but all in all a very good book, read best by the sea.
