Not her best novel, but still really good. The last 100 pages or so were the best and as always has a strong message that makes you think about your own life.

Not my favorite JP book. Definitely doesn’t hold a candle to her later ones, but was still good. Kind of hard to get used to the timeline with Rebecca’s POV going from end of the story to beginning while the other 4 POVs are told from beginning to end.

Well. This was a reread for me. I think I read it first when I was pregnant, four years ago. I though Jodi was the bees knees and knew everything about life. I enjoyed also this time around, but not quite as much. I find Jodi tries to grasp at 'REAL' humans and how they are a little too much, so it actually comes across as a little unbelievable. The connections between the characters and the dialogue leaves A LOT to be desired in this book. I read it in 24 hours because it's that sort of brain candy melodrama with just enough whale and apple lore thrown in to make you feel like your actually learning something. I loved the hub jub style of everything thrown together, non chronologically, several voices; it worked for me - even the daring move of revealing the end at the start of the book. This is Jodi's first ever book and it was a damn good start, she improves greatly as she goes along. Also - in the copy of the book I read this time around - paperback GB 2008 by Hodder & Stoughton there is an error on page 112 when Sam asks Jane if she can swim and she says 'Well, no' when it's supposed to be 'well, yes' as is written later in the book. It's pretty crucial because what follows makes Sam look like a total dick if the type was correct haha.

This one didn't include the typical "hot button topic" she's known for or I would have given it a 1. The relationships with the characters, backwards and forwards points of view is just hard to follow. Personally I feel Jane and the sheep had more chemistry.

There were so many red flags in this book, with a terrible ending.
Spoiler The books revolves around 5 characters, but mainly the poor choices of a woman who doesn’t know what she wants, and messes with her daughters life in the process, ultimately going back to a toxic relationship. Mentions of childhood abuse, a brother being “in love” with his sister, and a 15 year old having a relationship with a 25 year old because her mother is too wrapped up in herself </spoilers>

While I am a big fan of Picoult, I found this one to be a bit of a disappointment. I didn't mind the multiple narrators or the fact that they told the story out of chronological order. My problem was with the plot; I'm still not sure what the point was.
