I thought the book was alright. The writing isn't bad and I find the characters to be rather interesting. I thought the pacing was rather slow and it didn't really pick up until the last few chapters. I don't care for the relationship between Rose and Dimitri.

Moderate: Car accident and Mental illness
Minor: Death and Death of parent

Somehow these books hold up even though they are almost as old as me.
I think this story is very mature and nicely handled for the time it came out.
The age gap between the main love interests didn't bother me as much as other stories because of how well it was handled. The characters new it was wrong, and they make the right decisions in the end.
I also really liked how it didn't shy away from the topic of depression and self harm; and that sometimes medication and therapy really is the best way to cope with it.
I just wish we wouldn't have been stuck in Rose's head.
I would have liked to see more of Christian and Lissa's interactions to really buy into their relationship.
[ I love Mason and he deserves the world. ]
Im really excited to continue with this series and see where the story takes me next.

10/5 nostalgia
4/5 because this story is so campy, and so freaking fun. The character of Rose continues to be one of the best ya protagonists ever written. The friendship between Lissa and Rose is codependent but also SO beautiful.
Look Dimitri should be in jail, but suspend believe that a 24 year old mentor is crushing on a 17 year old student (🤢) and the relationship is your usual right person wrong time trope.
BUT the best character is Christian, I adore him and will continue to adore him for the rest of the series.
PROBLEMATIC STUFF: The main relationship (was it so hard to just make him a year or two older or have no power over her!?), there’s quite a bit of slut shaming and internalized sexism, some fat phobia, and pretty much NO diversity.
Overall this is just a fun book 😭
