Was a little concerned right at the start because it felt like I'd been thrown in midway, with lots of character names and info dumps being thrown at you, but turns out this is completely my jam!! Love the combination of different myths/fairytales/etc and the way they're used, love a ragtag gang of teens, love love love ominous prophecies - not flawless but boy I am excited to see where this will go in the sequels.

An unexpected absolute favourite of the year words cannot describe how much I loved this book!!!!!

It had everything I love in books I can’t wait to get my own physical copy so I can reread it and annotate it and give it the review it deserves!!!

I wanted to love this, and to be fair, it did pick up towards the end - but overall, it was a struggle to get through.

I don't mind books with complex worlds and characters, but this one fell flat for me. There was a lot of "telling" about the world, and not a lot of showing - this translated to a lot of info dumps, which stalled the rhythm of the narrative. I love that this was written by a woman of colour, and that the cast of characters was diverse in every way possible, complete with natural references to teenage life and culture. On the other hand, it was WAY overloaded with references to pretty much every fairy tale and fantasy story ever written which got in the way of both the story and the character development.

There were so many characters, and none of them were given room to breathe so it was hard to connect with any of them. The political ecosystem was central to the story but overcomplicated and underutilised. The dialogue was sassy but too wordy. That said, it did end strongly and the final few chapters bumped my review up to three stars. It would be good to remember, though, that there is power in simplicity.

Unfortunately this did not live up to my expectations. I've been having a good run this month in terms of higher ratings. I've been really into romances lately, so that may have had influence on when I was reading this. I found myself unable to get into the world and the characters, giving me an overall dull experience. By the end all I could think was "well at least I finished it", which isn't a good sign for me. It's not a 1 star at all, but I also don't think I was in the right mindset to enjoy it enough for 3 stars. It was lackluster, and thus my 2 star rating.

I was so happy to receive an exclusive fairyloot exclusive review copy of Wicked As You Wish and could not wait to finally pick it up and read. I was meant to have read it by its release date of 3rd of March but other books got in the way.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the phillipino influence, it was fresh and authentic, getting to learn some of the cultural cuisines as well as some of the language and cultures was enjoyable.

Wicked As You Wish had some of my favourite elements in books such as the deep and complicated relationships...I really admired this book for this as I felt that social interactions went much deeper then the surface. Relationships explored many various kinds of depth and complications and I'm looking forward to seeing how things progress next.

I liked that this universe was actually set amidst our world (earth) with added fictional areas and lands. I thought that was very cool and to me somewhat unique. I did find myself lost in a few parts of the world but maybe another reread of this book in future as more of the series releases will help in my understandings in places I did get a tad lost.

I'm looking forward to seeing how people's stories develop and what happens next and will be reading the next installment for sure.

If you like adventure, deep and meaningful relationships, action, fighting, magical lands, weapons and creatures, glimpses in to new cultures, a bit of romance, tight bonds between friends and family plus suspense then I recommend this book to you.
