I'm not gonna lie, after reading some of the Goodreads reviews, I was not sure whether I wanted to give this book a chance. I'm so glad I did, though.

After somewhat of a slow beginning, the story and its characters consumed me in a way [b:Divergent|8306857|Divergent (Divergent, #1)|Veronica Roth|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327873996l/8306857._SY75_.jpg|13155899] did. I was thrown into a whirlwind of emotions ... do I like him? Do I hate him? Do I love him? Who is telling the truth? Who is lying?

Veronica Roth cleverly knitted some profound statements into the story, my favourite being:
"Just because something is difficult," Edda said, "doesn't mean it's worth doing." So so good!

There were also some passages that made me laugh out loud: "Please, for the love of God, don't be one of those villains who waxes poetic about existentialist nonsense, because if you are, I really will have to cut you," she said.

The emotions all main characters are feeling were described so well I could almost feel the pain, the loss, the panic....

Part III of the book shows Roth's almost supernatural plot-writing skills. Though the book doesn't end with a huge cliffhanger, it does leave the reader wondering about what happens next.

This was pretty disappointing. Even after seeing the low star reviews, I was still holding out hope that I'd enjoy Chosen Ones. And while the concept is interesting, the book was just boring. I didn't care about the characters or basically anything that was happening.

The only reason why I finished is because the audiobook was amazing. It has a full cast with Dakota Fanning narrating our main character. They all did a great job.

Won't be continuing this series.

Hi this one really hit different, more thoughts later.

This is a novel I would consider more New adult than actually adult, the themes were intense but didn’t go in depth as much as I’m used to in adult material. The romance was a nice subplot and I was very invested in Sloane’s struggle.

The ending wrapped up so quickly I wouldn’t be able to call it perfect. However, the themes Roth was interested in were very much used well for the plot she achieved. And I really love the character work in this, almost everyone felt fleshed out. I just wish I could have had more time with it, that there was more of it! Which is an awesome sign for a book- I recommend it.

What an exciting and unique story!

With there being so many new super hero shows, all with varying uniqueness, this rates up there as one of the best for me. I would love to see this as a show or movie!
