Naposledy jsem Nikdykde četla před devíti lety. Z příběhu jsem si nepamatovala skoro nic, jenom že to je od Gaimana, že mě to bavilo a že je to fantasy. Teď jsem slíbila kolegovi v práci, že mu to půjčím - a řekla jsem si, že bych možná mohla tušit, co že to vlastně půjčuju. Tak jsem si dala rereading. A přátelé, zatím jedno z nejlepších rozhodnutí tohoto roku :)
Je zajímavý, jak se knížky s věkem proměňují. Když jsem Nikdykde četla poprvé, vnímala jsem ho jako urban fantasy. Taky mi to hrozně připomínalo Un-lun-dun.
Teď jsem o něco starší a Londýn pro mě už není jenom abstraktní tečka na glóbusu, ale opravdický město s metrem a lidma, který znám. Čtení jsem si teda užila výrazně víc, protože jsem si u spousty názvů najednou zvládla představit opravdický konkrétní budovy. Boží.
Druhá věc je, že najednou příběh získal úplně nový rozměr. Jasně, furt je to fantasy, pohádková, s Gaimanovým nezaměnitelným stylem. Ale taky je to kniha o tom, jak snadno člověk propadne "škvírou v systému", stane se neviditelným a začne být nucen žít v úplně jiným světě, než který dosud znal. Je tu hodně silná tématika bezdomovectví, ilustrovaná na tom, že v našich městech jsou ještě další "města", který ale nevidíme, máme-li štěstí.
Taky je v tom odvaha, přátelství, obětavost, zrada a takový ty věci, ale s tím se v těch alapohádkových fantasy asi počítá :) Prostě - přečtěte si to, ideálně na lavičce v Londýnským parku, ale Pražská lavička taky dobrý. Vyzkoušeno za vás.

Because Neil Gaiman is a controversial author I won’t be giving a rating but I’ll still provide my review and what I would rate the book.

I think in my head I want to give it a 4* but there’s just a couple things that make me not want to? Now I will say that I had a pretty good time reading this, I feel like it went pretty quickly which is a good thing in my opinion. I enjoyed the characters and I think the setting and elements of magical realism were good for me. There’s just one quote that’s really weighing on my mind and I hate it “She giggled like a Japanese girl”, like wtf is that. I also couldn’t be bothered reading the extra short story at the end lol

Also Hörbuch auf Spotify gehört. Macht super Spaß zu hören, die Idee ist super und dem Buch gelingt ein guter Mix aus Fantasy und realer Welt. Zuerst dachte ich, dass es genau gleich aufgebaut ist wie Sternwanderer und es gibt viele Parallelen (junger, männlicher Hauptcharakter, ist verliebt, entdeckt neue Welt, kein Geld sondern eher leicht unsicher). Aber dieses Buch ist um Welten besser, v.a. wegen der Bösewichte Mr. Croup und Mr. Vendemar. Zwei sehr coole Charaktere, die böse, aber sehr unterhaltsam sind und genau den richtigen Gegenpool zu Door und Richard bilden.
Die Rolle von Hunter gefällt mir nicht, dass sie am Schluss doch böse ist, dann fast schon lächerlich scheitert, und am Schluss wieder gut ist, finde ich etwas konstruiert.
Zu einem fünf Sterne Buch fehlt aber ein tieferes Thema, das im Buch behandelt wird. So ist es gute Unterhaltungsliteratur, aber nichts, dass aus der Masse heraussticht (außer die beiden Bösen).

Saying that I "really enjoyed' this book undersells my enjoyment. I can't properly put into words my thoughts at the moment, but suffice to say that I'll be reading more of Mr. Gaiman's novels.
