Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory

I picked up this book when I desperately needed something fluffy and nice to distract me from the stress of the US presidential election. This was a fun, romantic comedy that centred on cautious lawyer Olivia and charming junior senator Max and how they handle building a relationship that can last in spite of public scrutiny and their own innate differences. The love story was nice and all, but, honestly, what struck me most about this book was the sheer amount of food they ate. Literally every scene in this book seemed to feature an obscene amount of food. I hope these two get to enjoy whatever years they have left together before they both die of heart attacks at a tragically young age. However, it did prove a nice distraction from constantly refreshing the New York Times election map.

I just love each new installment of these!! Olivia and Max are a great new couple to follow and I loved getting their perspectives. It’s cute and mushy but also very real

Least favorite so far of this series but still loved it! Especially because I’m currently starting my own law practice and I feel everything Olivia said about it! Also, she’s not the only lawyer with a past!! Loved the book but there wasn’t as much passion between the two like the prior ones! Fell a little flat.

I— They— /Them/.

If I could give Jasmine Guillory my soul, I would.

I read this in a day, because I love Guillory's books so much. In this one, Olivia has just moved from New York to Los Angeles. She meets a cute guy in a hotel bar, and three weeks later she's invited to a luncheon where he is one of the speakers. This second time, she is aware that he's a US Senator and they begin dating and fall in love. Olivia is a Black woman who is determined to make a success of her new law firm that she started with a friend, and Max is a privileged white man who makes a lot of spontaneous decisions and relies heavily on his charm. I really enjoyed this. I love all of this series.
