I was again pleasantly surprised by how Nesbø managed to immerse me into Thai culture without sidelining the fact that Detective Hole was on assignment from Norway. I also enjoyed getting a deeper insight into Hole's family life that was briefly mentioned in the first book.

I appreciated Nesbø's dry witticisms/humour in this book as always

The mystery itself had SO many twists, which you will enjoy immensely. I'm very much looking forward to book 3!

The book reads well and the plot was exciting, but sometimes I had to orient myself in the story for a while.

A really tight Crime novel. My first Jo Nesbo, they've constructed a likeable character in Harry Hole. It's not a four star book for me... because I really dislike the action sequences. Knowing as I do that this is a long running series... the threat of the main character doesn't feel particularly pressing and I worry that this character will shrug off trauma after trauma. It's a shame because the combination of compelling characters and tight plot makes this book pretty irresistable. Nesbo is a master at leading the reader to the conclusions he wants us to make and then pulling the rug out from underneath our feet.

I know that I will be reading more.
