Holy. Hell.
This book was so boring.
Everyone is batshit (not in the good way) and I couldn’t force myself to care who was telling the truth.

*TW: abuse* 2.5 stars. I had heard someone raving about this book, so when I saw it on offer I thought "why not?" and purchased it. I have to say, this wasn't one of the books on my shelves that I was excited to read, but at the time I fancied reading a mystery/thriller and this book was just staring at me from my bookcase.

The book centres on twin sisters, Callie and Tilda. Callie becomes worried about Tilda and her relationship with new beau Felix, concerned that he is abusing her. Her concern quickly spirals into infatuation and obsession, with flashbacks to the past giving us glimpses into Tilda and Callie's bond from childhood into adolescence, into adults.

Throughout the book I was engaged, but not hooked. Most aspects of the book that are meant to make it creepy didn't bother me, but maybe that's because I'm a seasoned thriller reader and it no longer has the effect on me it once did. However, I will say that one part that did freak me out a little bit was Callie's obsession with eating things of Tilda's (honestly, what was THAT about?). It didn't feel like the plot was building to anything, and I would find myself so frustrated with Callie (our narrator) that I would want to HURL my book across the room (and not in a good way).

The twist was something that I was partly surprised by, and yet it wasn't the ending that I wanted- when Robins reveals that there was a body in Tilda's pool, I was hoping that it would be Tilda herself, but alas it was just another of Tilda's victims in her mission for success. :(

So, the tricky question is, would I recommend this book to other readers? I think that if you want a comfortable mystery/thriller that isn't overly gory/creepy then this is a good one to pick up. If you're like me, and prefer something a bit more hardcore and frightening, then I would suggest skipping this one.

First half of book was fantastic then I felt like everything became a big mess in the second half. Meh. Full review to come. Maybe.
