This is a good adventure story but there are really too much political references to the current pet subjects in some areas. I really try to stay out making comments in the political arena but I have to say that I was disappointed with this instalment as it felt like either the author was trying to make a statement or she was just using the current trends to garner support for the book.

If I want to read statements about climate change and such things I can read the news. These books have so far been a really good books with quite a lot of foundation in old mythology but this one just felt like the author was trying to ride on the “popularity” of the current debates going on.

Okay now I have said my piece on that part. The book is indeed a nice adventure story and I you ignore the political stuff it is an enjoyable read. It introduces as new faction from ancient times and, although it sometimes feels more like an interlude, it does provide some loose ends that can be used for some interesting developments further on.

It is a rather short book, especially given the time taken between the books in this series. It is also a fairly light read and rather predictable. It was enjoyable but only just so. I do miss the mystery part that was present in the earlier books but then I guess now when the “cat is out of the bag”
(pun intended) it is not that easy to keep up the mystery part.

A lot of the book was dedicated to the relationship between Laney and Jake and I have to say those were not my favourite parts. I would also like to see the ring bearer to kick a bit more behinds. Right now she seems to be spending a lot of her time wallowing in her own misery.

Still, as I wrote, a decent adventure story and I will definitely pick up the next book in the series.

With 7 novels in a series, they won't all be great. Turns out this was the mediocre one. It sort of felt like the B story in a TV series. Still entertain though.
