Emma, by Jane Austen

It was moving too slow and had little plot and no character development. I find with classic romance literature that I appreciate it more after watching a movie adaptation

This is a consciously very clever book but it's not my favourite Austen. Emma isn't as unbearable as I was expecting but she's too snobbish to be entirely sympathetic.

Seriously, when has Jane Austen ever done me wrong? Emma was amazing. I just wanted to continue reading it until I finished! Alas, I am in college and that makes it rather hard. This is the second Jane Austen I have read (after Pride and Prejudice) and while I didn't like Emma as much as I liked Lizzie, this was still a fantastic story. I love Mr. Knightly. Thanks to Jane Austen my idea of a perfect man is not from my own generation which is seriously hurting my dating life. Next up on my Jane Austen marathon is Persuasion.

I’ve been listening to the audio of these books because of a readathon I was involved with on Instagram but.... oh my days I’m really not enjoying it!

The only one I’ve liked is Pride and Prejudice. I still have Emma, Persuasion and Lady Susan to get through.

But I have so many more books I want to read/listen to that this just isn’t going to happen any time soon. And I need to admit defeat!!!

I do own the physical copy of Emma so I will maybe give this ago sometime in the future.

My third favorite Austen work. I enjoyed having Emma as the main character who is witty, vain, arrogant, and mischievous. Yes, she can be unlikable at times but I found her to be more intriguing than other Austen heroines such as Fanny Price. Emma was ahead of the times when it was published. I loved how Emma could be a busybody and nosy in other people’s business. It provided a comedic effect to the story. As far as the romance goes, I love that Emma and Mr. Knightley ended up together. I am a fan of friends to lovers > enemies to lovers. Mr. Knightley is Emma’s closest friend as well as her critic. We end the book with not one but three marriages. Emma makes friends from enemies and rights the wrongs that she has caused.

This took me a while to read... I enjoyed this book each time I read it, but nothing was pulling me back.

Achei que não fosse gostar do livro. Emma é de fato uma personagem chata, principalmente no começo, mas conforme a história se desenrola consegui criar afeto por ela.
