A short story from one of my favourite books about one of my favourite characters? Yes please! Though short, this story delivers all the delicious twists and turns that I come to Neil Gaiman for and firmly settles us back into the dark sprawling landscape of London Below. The Marquis himself is in fine form and is, as always, endlessly funny and entertaining. I fervently hope Gaiman returns with a full length sequel soon.

Listen, I never read short stories, but I've been in a MAJOR reading slump as of late, so I picked up this short story I bought for my mum last year and just went at it. Oh My God am I glad I did. I'm quite new to Gaiman, even though I've admired him for quite some time, and this was a perfect foray into his work. Without having read Neverwhere (I definitely will now) this story delicately balances providing character context for new readers without bogging the story down with it, making the writing tedious, for the seasoned readers. Excellent and succinct worldbuilding which felt fleshed out and fun, whilst maintaining a bit of grit. An enigmatic protagonist with some very human and relatable family hang ups. It's the whole package- especially in one as small as 58 A6 pages. Fully recommend.

Again another small book I’ve had in my collection for quite some time and I recently “rediscovered” it and realized I’d never read it. I’ve also come to realize since acquiring it that I’m not much of a Gaiman fan. His is just a brand of fantasy I don’t really care for, and it followed that rubric, it was just barely okay and not something I’d ever recommend.

Interesting short story. Made of the stuff that make fanfictions inevitable and doomed to fail because you do but can't really hope to match it.

Charming brief romp through the Neverwhere universe again. A shame Gaiman hasn't written more for this world.

Nice little side story for me while I'm still interested in this world.
