3.5 ⭐️ Really enjoyed the first half of this book but the last half was tricky to get through for an unsatisfying ending

Could of been so good..

This book was so good in many parts but towards the end it lost so much steam. The ending itself was very... Uncompleted?? (Spoilers for this part)
I can't can't honestly believe that Ryland would have just let her go and also I love Bo but theie love story was so dull. They never really had a lot of interactions and when they did it was all right.
It had all the right parts of being a good book but fell short. Honestly the book could have been about 150 pages shorter too

Amazon First Reads book from who knows how long ago...

3.5 rounded up -- Really enjoyable even if the end was a bit rushed and overly pat with some questionable character development holes.

I enjoyed the book very much. It is a story of a young woman who is the daughter of a slave and a plantation owner and is able to pass as white who gets swept up in circumstances she does not expect and tries to find a better life. There were multiple things in the book that I was unable to predict, so I liked that it kept me guessing.

I couldn’t put this down!!

This book was so good! The storyline, the plot, the end! The anxiety it creates lasts all the way to the end…which I reread a couple times.
