I loved this book and I related so heavily to Sally that it's like Sittenfeld crawled inside my skin and wrote a version of the wish fulfillment romcom I've always wanted. That said, it felt compressed somehow. Like there could have been more in places and certain moments felt glossed over. I didn't enjoy the way the ending felt flat and the disagreements were never quite fleshed out. There was never any danger, so there were never any heightened emotions. I needed just a bit more.
Graphic: Panic attacks/disorders, Death of parent, and Pandemic/Epidemic
Moderate: Body shaming, Blood, and Medical trauma
Minor: Eating disorder and Excrement

Did I like this book because I’m a cheese ball and I am a sucker for the celebrity rom-com trope? Yes. Did I somewhat dislike this because Sally, the narrator, and the modernity of it pissed me off? Also yes! However, I really did enjoy the concept of a late night comedy show writer falling in love with the celebrity guest/host of the show. I found the plot to be questionable and overall the book felt incomplete to me, but I would not dissuade others from reading it - it just wasn’t my cup of tea!

At the end of the day, I don't think I like SNL enough to enjoy this.
Beyond that, I did not like Sally, and I felt like the writing of this book was incredibly stilted, especially the conversation aspects. The best writing was in the emails, but the rest of it did not sound like real people talking.
I also was just not personally ready for the COVID aspects; I don't yet want that reminder in books. The epilogue also read so weird it pulled me out of the story a lot.
