Saw this in the Libby app and thought it might be interesting. It was.

What I liked: This is a full-bodied story of two literary trailblazers. The author didn’t shy away from the very concerning and harmful behavior of Sexton and Plath, but did not reduce them to the stereotype we see all too often when they are mentioned. The accomplishments and challenges that were surmounted were drawn out and I learned a lot and gained a lot of respect for these women. While their respective traumas were also discussed, the trauma they inflicted on others was not glazed over. Love that. This book was also very well researched.

My one complaint that I can remember to mention: There was a mention of cancel culture that I think didn’t serve the book, or maybe it could have been rephrased. I have a distaste for using buzz phrases and prefer when people are absolutely clear about their criticisms.

Overall a great book and I’m super glad it was my intro to these two fascinating figures.
