A solid 3.5 stars. The writing is undeniably beautiful and the way the story weaves between the past and present is masterful, and I really enjoyed the reflections on family and life’s choices.

But I couldn't get past how horrible Peter Duke was. His character came off as self-absorbed and manipulative, making it hard to root for any part of his romance with Lara. It just felt toxic. And then there’s Emily—honestly, she left me frustrated more often than not. Her character didn't add much depth or likability to the story for me.

In the end, it was more about the beautiful storytelling and less about truly caring for some of the characters.

When I finished this book I said “good God it’s finally over”
Don’t get me wrong, there were sweet moments but this book was pointless. The cover is pretty.
